Course Description:  This course is an intense course designed to prepare the student to respond to and mitigate an incident involving structural collapse. This class will utilize CCC’s “0” course along with the collapse simulator. This course is not for everyone! It is very labor intensive and will be a lot of hard work. If you have medical problems (bad back, etc.) or if you are not in good physical shape, you may not want to sign up. The course is objective driven. You will be dismissed for the day when all scheduled objectives have been met (WHETHER IT IS 6 PM OR 11 PM). Those with construction experience or who are mechanically inclined will do better than those who have no experience. Requirements for the class include moving a concrete block, weighing over a ton, with only a couple of 51” pinch bars and 2” steel pipe; drive nails; cut lumber; understand angles; build and use mechanical advantages; use concrete saws, concrete drills, concrete chain saws, cutting torches, concrete breakers; break concrete in three positions (one being over your head); set anchors; understand the use of chokers and lifting loads heavier than a car. There will be no cancellations due to weather or time of day!

The Student will be responsible for bringing the following materials to class each day:

Hammer, nail apron, tape measure, speed square, pencils, flashlight, PPE requirements shall include; Long pants (BDU Style or Fire Service), Long sleeve shirt, Gloves, Steel Toe Boots, Hydration pack or water bottle, knee and elbow pads, Helmet, Eye and ear protection, Respiratory protection (dust masks or respirators), and rain gear (if needed), FOG Manual.      If you don’t have everything, please give us a call. We will try to accommodate your needs.

If you are interested, please reply by sending the attached application as soon as possible. The class is limited to 40 participants. Verbal word will not secure spots; only one written form per student will be accepted. We will start a waiting list for all over 40 registrations. This course is for experienced personnel; no junior firefighters need apply. The cost of the course is $200 (out-of-state, $260), and checks should be made payable to Cleveland Community College.
